Nobles Century Farm has been operated by Larry and Ann Nobles since 1992.
Our thirty-acre farm is located in southeastern North Carolina in the small
farming community of China Grove,
six miles southwest of Chadbourn.
It is recognized as a Century Farm by the North Carolina Department of
Agriculture and the North Carolina State Fair. The more than 1500 Century
Farms are farms that have been continuously owned by members of the same
family for more than 100 years.
Ours is a typical small farm. But instead of growing cotton, corn, soybeans,
and tobacco like most of our neighbors, we grow vegetables,
flowers and bamboo.
We sell organicaly-grown vegetables (and sometimes fresh bamboo shoots) at
Columbus County Community Farmers Market.
We give tours of our bamboo groves
and sell fresh-dug bamboo by appointment. We grow flowers for ourselves
and our honeybees.

Porter Swamp Company was organized in 2002
to provide an outlet for our products through the Internet. We ship our
products to most of the states
in the mid-Atlantic region of the country. When we receive inquiries about
bamboo from outside this area, we try to provide as much information as we
can, then assist the customer with finding a source closer to home. This
reduces shipping costs, decreases the time the bamboo is in transit and
provides plants more acclimatized to the customers locale.

The Bambusetum
|
Also associated with Nobles Century Farm is
The Bambusetum, a non-profit
organization with a small laboratory and growing facility. As a member
of the
American Bamboo Society, The Bambusetum is involved in research,
culture studies, and propagation of bamboo and other products which
strike our fancy, such as more than 40 varieties of Hippeastrum (commonly
called Amaryllis).
